Every kid deserves to be seen. Really seen.
Compassionate, individualized behavioral support that looks beyond the behavior to understand the child, their needs, and the story behind them.
Our approach
At Illuminate, we believe behavior tells a story. Before we ask, “How do we stop this behavior?” we want to understand, “What might this person be trying to tell us?”
Our work brings together Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and social work to look beyond what we see on the surface. Behavior doesn’t happen in isolation—it is shaped by relationships, experiences, environments, trauma, available skills, and the systems surrounding a person. Understanding those pieces helps us respond with greater compassion and create support that truly fits the person in front of us.
We bring this approach to everything we do through three pathways: direct client services, professional consultation, and training and education. Whether we’re supporting a child and family, collaborating with another professional, or teaching a team how to better understand behavior, our goal remains the same: to see the whole person, understand the need behind the behavior, and build meaningful skills that create lasting change.
Through a holistic, individualized approach, we consider not only behavior, but also the person’s strengths, relationships, emotional well-being, lived experiences, environment, and support system. This allows us to meet children and families where they are while helping professionals and organizations create environments where the people they serve can feel understood, supported, and successful. Sometimes the most important shift isn’t changing the person—it’s changing the way we understand and respond to them.
Our mission.
At Illuminate Behavioral Consulting, we believe wholeheartedly that there's no such thing as a bad kid. Every child, regardless of their past or present challenges, possesses inherent worth and potential. Our mission is to create spaces where foster children feel seen, heard, and valued, and where their unique strengths can shine. We understand that foster children often face a complex combination of trauma, loss, and instability, which can manifest in challenging behaviors. However, we view these behaviors as signals of unmet needs, not as flaws or failures.
